Dr. Makola Abdullah is an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Previous to joining the faculty in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Dr. Abdullah was a faculty member in the Division of Engineering Technology at Florida A & M University. Dr. Abdullah's academic experience also includes adjunct professor position at Chicago State University in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. He also has worked in industry for Jackson and Tull Chartered Engineers based in Washington, DC.
Dr. Makola Abdullah
Dr. Abdullah's commitment to increasing the number of African-Americans in science, math and engineering is a primary career focus. He has appeared on the Black Entertainment Television program Teen Summit and is active in community mentoring programs in Tallahassee, FL.

Dr. Abdullah's research interests center around the vibration control of civil engineering structures. In particular, the interests include the placement and design of output feedback controllers; optimization algorithms for discrete location placement; robust control design; minimization of structural pounding. This research is currently funded by the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
This premier program emphasizes the importance the Foundation places on the early development of academic careers dedicated to stimulating the discovery process, in which the excitement of research is enhanced by inspired teaching and enthusiastic learning. It combines in a single program the support of research and education of the highest quality and in the broadest sense.

Dr. Abdullah has served on several NSF Grant Review Panels has reviewed textbooks and journal articles and is the author of several journal papers:

Abdullah, M. "Optimal Placement of Output Feedback Sensor/Actuator Systems at Discrete Locations", AIAA Journal, November 1998, 2109-2116
